Wood Fencing

Highlights

-Summary

✩ Details

We use black ornamental steel hardware including double sided latches on all gates, drop rods and cam bolts on double gates to combat wood’s natural tendencies to twist.

  • All posts are set 18-24” in the ground with 40-50lbs of concrete per hole. 4 x 4 line posts are used on all of our standard fence styles.
  • Regarding the horizontal support rails: (2) for 4’ height and lower or (3) on 4 ½’ height or taller. 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 are traditionally used on all gates—specific recommendations and pricing will be listed on our quote.
  • All post tops are routed ¼” on all four sides to create a finished look. We pull a string line corner to corner and evenly divide the posts, nailing the pickets in between for a perfectly spaced fence line.
  • Ring shank galvanized nails are used to combat warping and eliminate rust bleeding down the pickets and posts.
  • All of our wood fences are stick built and constructed onsite to follow the terrain so you can rest easy in knowing your home or business is safe and secure.

⚒ Durability & Maintenance

In terms of durability, all lumber used is pressure treated pine which naturally deters termites. Wood is a natural product so it will warp, bend and twist.

Best advice is to seal or stain your fence within 4-6 weeks of the installation in the spring/summertime and 10-12 in the winter. Temperature must be above 50 degrees. Sealant is clear and will wear in the sun quicker than a colored stain.

Second application will normally follow every 2-4 years depending on initial coverage and sun exposure. Ensure the lumber is dry from any type of precipitation for 24 to 48 hours—protect your home and plants by covering any areas close to the fence with plastic.  ⁘General rule of thumb is 5 gallons per 100’ of fence.

A well maintained wood fence should normally last approximately 20 years.
